Talk & questions
only you can do this
The anatomy of a conference presentation, part by part. Coral marks what only you can write: abstract and talk & questions.
FIG 1ANATOMY

What goes into a conference presentation, and who does what.

A conference contribution is several documents with different audiences: a programme committee, readers of the proceedings, and a room listening to you for a fixed slot.

§01 · YOURS ALONE
Abstract
MOREMIND DOES
Checks length and required headings against the call for papers, and formats references if the call allows them.
YOU DO
Write it. The committee accepts or rejects on this text alone.
§02 · SHARED
Proceedings paper
MOREMIND DOES
Applies the conference template (for example ACM or IEEE proceedings formats), checks the page limit and formats references in the required style.
YOU DO
Write the paper. It's usually shorter and tighter than a journal version.
§03 · SHARED
Slides
MOREMIND DOES
Turns your paper's structure into a slide outline with speaker notes for you to rework, and re-renders figures from your data with slide-sized labels.
YOU DO
Decide the one point of each slide and cut everything else.
§04 · SHARED
Poster
MOREMIND DOES
Lays out sections and figures on a poster template at the size the conference specifies.
YOU DO
Choose the one finding the poster's title states, and the path a reader's eye follows.
§05 · YOURS ALONE
Talk & questions
MOREMIND DOES
Generates practice questions from your own paper so you can rehearse answers.
YOU DO
Rehearse to time, give the talk and handle the questions.
FIG 2HOW IT'S ASSESSED

What assessors look for.

Programme committees read abstracts quickly, and audiences decide within minutes whether to follow you.

CONTRIBUTIONThe abstract states what's new and the main result, not only the topic.
FITThe work matches the track or theme it's submitted to.
ONE MESSAGEThe talk has a single takeaway that the audience could repeat afterwards.
TIMINGThe talk fits the slot and leaves room for questions.
LEGIBILITYFigures readable from the back of the room; slides not used as a script.
POSTERA title that states the finding, and a layout that reads in a clear order.
FIG 3COMMON MISTAKES

Where marks are usually lost, and how MoreMind helps.

What MoreMind can catch, and what it leaves to you.

MISTAKE 01
Pasting paper figures straight onto slides
Figures are re-rendered from the same data at slide size, with larger labels and fewer gridlines, so they stay consistent with the paper.
MISTAKE 02
Too many slides for the slot
You set the slide count when the outline is generated. Cutting to one message per slide is still your job.
MISTAKE 03
An abstract over the limit or missing required headings
The abstract is checked against the word limit and headings in the call before you submit.
MISTAKE 04
Unprepared for questions
Practice questions generated from your paper give you something to rehearse against. Your answers are your own.
FIG 4WORKFLOW

How a conference presentation comes together.

From the call for papers to the Q&A. The paper and slides share one set of sources and one dataset.

01 · CALL FOR PAPERSNote the word limit, template, page limit and deadlines from the call. These become the checks MoreMind runs.
02 · ABSTRACTWrite the abstract. MoreMind checks length, headings and any references.
03 · PAPER TO TEMPLATEWrite the proceedings paper. The conference template and reference style are applied for you.
04 · SLIDES & POSTERGenerate a slide outline and poster layout from your paper, then rework both. Figures are re-rendered for the format.
05 · REHEARSERehearse against the clock and against practice questions generated from your paper.
06 · PRESENTGive the talk. Bring a PDF backup with fonts embedded.
FIG 5EXAMPLE

From a paragraph to a slide.

A dense results paragraph becomes a slide outline with one message, and its figure is re-rendered for projection. You rewrite the headline in your own words and decide what to say out loud.

ILLUSTRATIVE · NOT REAL DATA OR A REAL PROJECT
PAPER §4 · ILLUSTRATIVE
Participants who received feedback within 24 hours revised more of their draft than those who waited a week, and the difference held after controlling for prior grades (Fig. 3).
SLIDE OUTLINE · YOU EDIT
Faster feedback → more revision
· 24 hours vs one week
· holds after controlling for prior grades
